Number Of Power Outages In Fairfield County Surges In Afternoon

With winds whipping between 20 and 30 mph and gusts approaching 65 mph in the area, thousands more are now without power as utility crews scramble to restore service to the region.

More than 20,000 Connecticut residents were reporting power outages just before 3:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon, up from approximately 7,000 in the morning. 

On Monday afternoon, Feb. 25, 19,472 of Eversource's 1,273,665 Connecticut customers were reporting outages, as weather conditions led to downed power lines and utility poles in the area. An additional 2,400 customers of the United Illuminating Company were also reporting outages.

In Fairfield County, more than 100 outages were reported in Wilton, Westport, Stamford, Ridgefield, Redding, Newtown, and Bridgeport. No official time has been announced for complete restoration of power.

By late Monday morning, 4,642 of Eversource’s 1,273,665 customers in Connecticut were reporting power outages as of 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, as weather conditions downed power lines and utility poles in the area. An additional 2,477 customers of the United Illuminating Company were also reporting outages.

The week is expected to bring wild weather to the area, with winds topping 30 mph and gusts reaching upwards of 65 mph. Temperatures are expected to drop during the week, with potential rain and snow coming later in the week.
